BEREA, Ohio ? Mallett Cars says it will offer a limited-production run of the Pontiac Solstice and Saturn Sky with V8 engines.
The company, an Ohio conversion firm that specializes in high-performance versions of the Chevrolet Corvette and Cadillac CTS-V, is customizing the roadsters with the LS2 V8, the most powerful standard small-block engine ever offered in the Corvette. The 6.0-liter V8 makes 400 horsepower and 400 pound-feet of torque.
Mallett has not yet announced pricing or availability on the customized Skys and Solstices.
The production version of the $20,000 Solstice is powered by a 177-horsepower, 2.4-liter, four-cylinder Ecotec engine mated to a five-speed manual transmission.
The Sky, Saturn's first convertible, will be powered by a 170-hp Ecotec engine with variable valve timing and a five-speed manual transmission. General Motors says the Sky will be priced under $25,000 and be available in early 2006.
Mallett was founded in 1997 by racing veterans Chuck and Lance Mallett. The company is home to the supercharged CTS-V that recently won the sedan class in Car & Driver magazine's supercar shootout.
