<< What ever happened to tolerance, live and let live. >>

Clearly, there is only one solution, mine. I hate everybody equally. :D

Not sure about you but I was thinking "I hate university, I want to get out the easiest way possible" and I'd already done enough for a science degree so I now have the easiest science degree you can get.

BTW the year of it not sure but it was an early 90's - my main problem was that I could not physically move the seat far enough back for a good position against the steering wheel. I'm only 5,11" - but even with the seat far back I felt like I was humping the steering wheel!

The first few years the saturn came with a temporary manual trans fluid that had to be replaced after 1500miles. I was working at an oil change center and would tell the owners this, and they wouldn't believe me. If it was true tht dealer would have told them about it, so I'd get the press release from saturn themselves and show them up. I was always nice showing these people up, they were always so proud of their car and their car company.

Speaking of drivers I was drivnig along yesterday and a saturn owner was too much on my ass (30-year old woman; she looked like a bi*ch but thats another matter). I took a turn off the road going right, signalled early and it was dark so I ended up breaking somewhat hard and the b*tch honked at me as she drove by! Maybe if she wasn't on my ass it wouldn't have been a problem! grr

Haha, you've discovered our secret, Saturn owners have a monopoly on being @ssholes. ;)

I'll do a little experiment for the next couple days. I'll make a mental not of jackasses running stops, tailgating, darting in and out of traffic, and let you know what makes the biggest offenders are.

Apparently to the Middle East.

Congratulations for having discovered marketing. So which car is not marketed to make its owner feel special and different?

I guess its the person who I have seen fall for this marketing that bothers me, not the marketing itself.

Well, ok the marketing does bother me too ;)

As others have said before, I believe Saturn owners are part of a big cult. I just don't know what they're up to.;)

aRyll, in general, they tick me off when they are self righteous about their car purchase, as if they are part of a new consumer revolution to debunk the big 3, and thwart the attempts of japanesse manufacturers to mindlessly build cars for a faceless nation.

They tick me off when they think that they are progressive and that they are part of a small elite group of car owners who have seen the light, and now own the road.

They tick me off when they think that their saturn is an extension of their "dare to be different" and "revolutionary" socially conscious youths
that keeps them hip illustrates how they "fight the good fight"

Anyway, its nice to be ticked at somebody :D

I have no problem with Saturn owners per se. Personally I believe that you can find more metal in a Matchbox car than in a Saturn, but at least they don't rust. I share the befuddlement that many seem to have regarding why Saturn calls "no haggle" a plus. My father haggled the price on my mother's 1998 Nissan Maxima SE from ~$27000 to ~$21000, a "no haggle" policy would have cost him around six thousand dollars. Actually, "no haggle" would have cost the dealership a sale, my father's no dope. As far as reliability, I don't think there are a lot of (any?) American cars that approach my old Honda. Any car that can put 191,000 miles on the original waterpump and alternator (with the latter failing and the other replaced because it was only ~$50 and the engine was apart for the alternator anyway) with the kind of driving I do has got to have absolutely outstanding build quality.

Funny Skoorb, I was thinking something similar...

"Hmmm, what can I major in and apply all the hours I've watched of Dateline, 20/20, 60 Minutes, and 48 Hours to?"

It always amazed me that people actually had to study for the exams. I was like, "Oh yeah, I remember that episode about autistic savants..." :D

My best excuse is that I did it all while being a mom... I worked part time, too. Studying to be a brain surgeon while taking care of a young family was out for me. ;)

As for Saturns: Well, mine worked for me. However, when the third kid was born, I entered the world of minivans.... proof of evil in the world, right?

;)

You're right - the only thing worse than a saturn is a minivan - My father had two of them!

Study? I have never known the word. If I'm a master at anything its master of procrastinating and relying on luck and wit to get through an exam :) I remember one course of like 80 people I went to the first class, then the 10th(?) and the prof asked if I was in the right class. Everyone had a good laugh, I didn't go back. I borrowed someone's book for the exams and actually beat them and they had gone to the 8:30's hehe I think she was a bit bitter.

BoberFett:

I think my problem was more a crooked dealership than the car.

They charged outrageous fees for anything. I once paid $38 and waited 1:45 for a simple oil change.

I then started changing the oil elsewhere, and that mechanic pointed out the massive corrosion hole in my '98 SL2's exhaust (this was IN 98 - 8 months old!). From the looks of it, the hole had been there for about 4 months - and several Saturn visits where the car was "all-points inspected" for a hefty fee. It was repaired for nearly $1000, which I managed to scream at them enough to put it on the warranty (again, 8 month old car with low mileage) - they claimed the hole was "wear and tear", boy would that phrase come to haunt me!

6 months later the exhaust system needed another $800 of work - "wear and tear"! Again I threatened to call corporate until it went on warranty.

New plugs, wires and ignition system at 15 month old - you guessed it, wear and tear. I paid for half after arguing.

Many trips, arguments, repairs and cost to me (STILL UNDER WARRANTY!!!) I was replacing the rotors (gone at 30,000) because it cost me $150 in parts from the auto parts place and Saturn wanted $700, when I noticed that there was a small crack in a plastic part under the car, and then at the front of the engine, the horn mechanism had fallen off.

Took it to the dealership: The horn fell of because a rock must have kicked up under the hood, bounced off the engine manifol, and sheared through the bolt, which then vanished. Its not covered under warranty.

The small crack is wear and tear - $200 to fix it.

I gave up.
I called Saturn and was told "there there", and tough luck because that is the only Saturn dealer within 2 hours of here.
I called GM to be told that GM dealerships would not service a Saturn at all. Not under Warranty, not for money, not at all.

Private mechanicas told me they hated them - they charged more than Honda costs to work on them. Parts would be expensive.

THE CAR WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY!!!!

I drove it to a different car brand dealership, traded it in, and drove away in a new, NON-SATURN car. The dealer apologized for not being able to give us more for it, but that the resale value of these cars was tanking. Good riddance!

Rant off.

OK, you win. :) Sounds like you got hosed. :( I had a good experience at our dealer. I even went back and bought a used car from them.

i drive a 99 sl2 and i love it. perhaps its just the marketing talking, but i am happy with my car, only problem that i have had is that the low fuel lite has never worked and its a little slow on the pickup. but other than that...it works great for me ;)
