im thinking about trading my 99 honda civic in for a 2004 saturn ion 2. i dont know much about saturns... does anyone have an opinion on the ion or saturns in general? (not looks - performance, reliability, etc)

this is the car im looking at. a lot of miles though, i guess it was a rental car.

they look like they flip over quite easily.

i think those are ok cars, but the quality of saturns aren't so good IMO, and the resell value kinda blows. read about it in edmunds.

Why are you trading in a Civic for an Ion?

If you want something new get a Mazda Protege, Mazda 3 or Nissan Sentra.

The use the Eco tech motor, very good.

Motor has room for upgrades if that is your thing. If you don;t like the look then look at the the new Chevy Cobalt. Same engine etc...

Price seems a little high, I would talk them down on that. But other then that it looks good.

WTF?? Keep the Civic. Good lord why on earth would you go to such a POS car like the Ion? Get this, the Ion is SOOO bad, that is has been selling in WORSE numbers than the previous Saturn S series which was over 10 years old.

Goodness, I'd even recommend a Hyundai Elantra over that POS.

And let me get this straight...$15,000 for a Saturn Ion with 30,000 miles on it? What the heck are they smoking?????? I know it's your money, but if you want something good that's NEW, take a look at the Civic, Mazda 3/3s, Corolla or Scion tC (or Scion xA/xB if you prefer quirky looks).

Don't do it, you're crazy. Taking a $3,000 loss on a trade in? I did that once and it was very hard to recover. Please let us talk you out of it.

If you go for the ION, do go for the "Redline" model.

You'll get looks, and speed.

But wait... you're getting used?

Oh well. Like NFS said though, they are overpriced, but I think they are reliable.

Uhh, that's an insane price you can get the exact same vehicle new in a 2005 with no miles for $15,845. If you look around you'll probably find a private party one with factory warranty left for a great price. From what I understand about Saturns is they have some of the stupidest crap break but they are reliable and won't leave you broken down on the side of the road. People supposedly get upwards of 200k out of them.

how do you owe $9,000 on a 5 year old car that cost $15,000 when new?

As a former Saturn owner I am happier with my 86 Chrysler K-Car than I was with my Saturn. Please keep the Civic.

I love my Saturn, but I can't in good conscience tell you to get that car. Just not a good deal, plus, Ions have the intrument gauges in the center of the dash, not in front of the driver. That would annoy the hell out of me.

Brother drives a '03. good vehicle, I don't like driving it myself, Steering wheel is TINY! I have a 97 Saturn, love the thing, never had problems with it, pushing 120K on the Odometer too.

what is wrong with your civic? give the ION a test drive and you'll feel how cheap it is., and you'll realize how much nicer yoru civic is.

Save money, keep the civic - and be happy :)

the saturn ion got horrible reviews .. i mean horrible!
for small compact cars, stay with imports. better reliablity, more bang for the buck... and not much depreciation.

cant go wrong with a civic, or even a corolla.

You couldn't give me a Saturn that would make me want to give up my 13 year old Accord.

You will even have less money if you by the Ion. There is no residual value on these things. IF you buy the Ion and are wanting to sell it at a later time, you will end up having to pay someone to take it from you.
