Satellite with Win2K AS RRAS, 56K, TPF (or WRP), etc?

I'm just about to take the plunge into the high ping world of satellite internet (Starband/DishNet), and would appreciate a few tips from people who already have it.

I have a Windows 2000 Advanced Server RRAS box, with an external 56K modem attached and Tiny Personal Firewall, etc. installed. I read that TPF is the firewall from Winroute Pro 4.1; I downloaded the trial version last night and it looks very interesting. Has anyone tried it? How do you feel it compares with RRAS? If WRP does the same job as RRAS (and more), and considering that it's an ICSA-certified firewall, I could use it as an "all-in-one" solution. Well, maybe BlackIce too. 🙂 Thoughts? BTW, a hardware "appliance" firewall isn't an option unless I void my 180 USB modem warranty by converting it to ethernet.

As far as latency goes, I know I'm screwed. I haven't played online games in awhile, but I would like to make internet phone calls and maybe hook up some x10 security cams and feed the A/V to a personal site. Although Starband is bidirectional, can I use my 56K dialup link to my existing ISP to improve my ping at all? I can probably figure out how to route incoming packets through one interface and outgoing through another, but please post a "howto" if you've done it -- and tell me if it helped any. It'll save me some time. Thanks.
