Satellite vs Cable Which one has better picture?

I have a HDTV , Right now I have the Dish. I need more tv's running (3 kids) I have 2 dish recievers, I need 2 more. The Dish people want 149.00 to hook up 2 more recievers. I have 4 hookups for cable. I am satified with the picture with the Dish. Will the picture look the same with analog cable(Comcast)?

I like satellite much better than digital cable.

clearer picture and much shorter lag time when changing channels.

umm cable all the way. I never had digital cable EVER show any static or garbage. I've dealt with satellites for about 15 years while living in europe and everytime there was wind or bad weather the pickture would get fvcked up

As far as digital quality goes, both of the services' mpm hdtv signal is 320x240 so the quality will be identical in the best conditions. Satellite is the only carried that can be affect by athmosperic events

I was under the impression it depends on where you are in relation to the cable network. Judging by most homes I've been to, satellite usually offers ther better image by a good bit, but I've also been to a couple homes where the cable had a great picture - my father-in-law has analog cable, but has a very good picture overall. We tried digital cable and while it had good picture at TIMES usually it didn't have enough bandwidth in our area and was constantly pixellating. My boss lives closer into town and his digital cable has an EXTREMELY nice picture, easily on par with my satellite.

DirecTV is the best all around service. I hate the fact that I am forced to deal with the inadequcies of Comcast until June.

I really couldn't tell the difference between Comcast digital cable (using Monster 2 Svideo) and their analog service on my Toshiba 57H81...I dropped the digital service after I got my Voom HDTV service...

I had Direct TV at my apartment before I moved two months ago, and for the most part the picture quality using a Panasonic Direct TV receiver (with same Svideo cable) looks the same as the Comcast analog picture I get now...some channels are definitely sharper than others though...

If you have Dish Network, send me a PM. I can get you a hook up much better than $149.00. If you have DirecTV, I can't help you.

Also, sattelite is much better than cable (digital or analog). The picture quality spanks cable any day.

Digital cable is similar to satellite, but the trick is that in many areas only a few channels are digital. Before I got Directv, my cable co offered digital only for HBO, Showtime and Starz, the others were crappy as usual. I'm very glad I switched to satellite, much better quality, more channels, $10 cheaper, here. Make sure to check which channels are really digital.

Get a promo from a local reseller. You could switch satellite companies, but usually they match the offers.

All I know is that Charter Digital Cable sucks major ass. I wish I could get DirecTV again. :disgust:

Mediacom is present where I'm at. The rates were obnoxiously high to begin with...and if that wasn't bad enough...they just raised the packages another $5 bucks a month each.

Satellite is the way to go IMHO. Assuming you don't have a putz doing your satellite installation and you can get a good signal, I haven't had any complaints at all about the picture or sound quality.

Where I am, comcast analog channels will suck compared to those same SAT channels, but the comcast digital look comparable or better than SAT, and HDTV blows sat away.

there is satellite HDTV you know. 🙂

DirecTV is awesome. I think we've had it for about 3 years now. Totally blows away any cable signal I've seen, digital or not. I love the fact I don't have to pay those leeches at the cable company for a crappy service😀

I actually tested DirecTV and Time Warner Digital cable simultaneously on my HDTV when I got it last year.
This is how it broke down:

HDTV > * (obviously)
Satellite > Analog cable
Satellite = Digital cable

Satellite upgrade to HDTV costs - $1000
Convert from Sat. to HDTV cable cost - $45

That's why I switched to digital cable. More HD channels, much lower upfront costs (I just spent $3K on the TV not spending another $1K on all new satellite equipment) equal digital quality (and the analog quality isn't really that bad here), and lower monthly costs.

Now for the disclaimer... unless you're in the Raleigh NC TWC area this may or may not apply to you. Cable quality varies greatly from area to area. BTW My DirecTV dish had a 99% constant signal, so it was a good as it was going to get.

Huh?

DirectTV has a deal now with a Samsung receiver(that allows OTA signals) and new dish for $400 plus $15 shipping. Free install as well.

We have directtv and to me it looks like garbage. Its way too compressed not to mention cbr which doesn't help. But, considering I work with video for a liviing I am probably way too picky lol
