Whenever it's pouring down rain outside - the one time you may actually *want* to stay in the house and watch TV, it cuts out :| :(

Heh, well thats not the case for me. I've got cable and satellite and I have to say, when it rains/storms/what ever, cable is far worse than satellite. Only in the worst conditions is satellite worse than cable but is blocking really that much better than 'obtaining signal'?

We used to have cable too, and never had a problem with it in bad weather. Only time anything happeened was when some dumbass would cut a line that ran through a construction site around here :p

Same here. When it really rains hard the signal is lost to most if not all channels. It is very annoying and irritating because you want to see tv more when it is raining outside or if the weather is crappy. For the most part, satellite tv is great. Used to have cable but I find satellite superior. Times may have changed but we have not had cable in 3-4 years.

Of course it all depends on your installation. In some areas, satellite is MUCH better than cable. In others, cable is better than satellite. Each to their own.

No problems with rain fade here for me. Only the very heavy storms do I lose my satellite signal. And that is usually only for 5-10 minutes at most.

that's usually how it is here too. The problem is that lately all we seem to get are hellacious downpours. And it only *really* annoys me when it cuts out in the middle of a movie.

I have a satellite dish on my house that was included in my house purchase. i still have cable, though. I'm torn on making the switch, but I've considered it.

From this thread, should I assume I should stick with cable or do you still recommend that I swap over to dish network?

Dish Network is extremely reliable, no problems at all. Price is very reasonable and customer support is quick and pleasant. We had Time Warner cable about 3 or 4 years ago and they were ok too but they were not digital. Although, somehow, I got a free boobie channel!

I have no problems with my satellite connection when it rains. When I had cable, it crapped out whenever it rained or snowed out.

It has to rain pretty hard to mess up here. Make sure you have a good signal strength when its not raining. Also sometimes ours will go out for a min or so right before a storm hits. Once it starts raining it comes back. Its still better than the cable in my area which doesn't even come down our road.

Never had any problems due to heavy rain/snow with Dish when I lived in WV. Oddly enough, I lost signal once due to very high winds. And yes, the dish was still on the roof and still pointed at the right sat.
