Satellite TV coming to automobiles.

Delphi Corp., the auto technology supplier based in Troy, is turning heads at the Consumer Electronics Show this week with a satellite TV antenna so small and thin that it mounts between the roofline and the interior headliner of a passenger vehicle, causing no styling issues and keeping the roofline aerodynamically flat. It's also light enough to fit inside a passenger car.

Yet this antenna system is able to track a geostationary satellite 22,000 miles above Earth and deliver high-quality signals to a video display in a moving vehicle.

Delphi announced a partnership this week with satellite radio provider Sirius to develop the first phase of the system within 18 months. Sirius will program several streaming video channels and deliver them through the system it uses to deliver satellite radio broadcasts.
