Spoke with 4 different Dish Network reps and all of them told me the receivers aren't compatible with the TV tuner in my computer since they're only made for TV's...

I would have thought the TV tuner would be no problem?? 2 of the 4 TV's I want to hook up with cable are computers with a TV tuner..

If your computer tv tuner has rca in or can do channel 3 or 4 your good to go. I had a directv box hooked up to my tuner for years.

Does your tuner card have inputs? I would think of the sat receiver as a dvd player, would a dvd player be able to play into your tuner card?

Yeah, I have component hookups and a coaxial in. So it should work, but the techs say no even though AMDMadness has it working. I need to talk to someone else to make sure they don't have it wrong..

what you do is go from the RCA outs on the satellite receiver and go into the RCA ins on your TV capture card. (presuming they both have them).

I've had satellite and other things fed into my GF6600 VIVO card. Works likea charm.

It's just like digital cable, it will work, but you'll need to change channels with the reciever remote. The tuner software won't change channels.

Exactly, your TUNER won't work, but your inputs will do fine in conveying the signal to your display. You'll need a ir blaster or use the receiver's remote to change channels.

As others have said, the reps on the phone are saying you can't plug the line from the dish directly to your pc. But if you go Dish -> receiver -> PC then you'll be fine.

Some TV tuners have IR blaseter, which can put out an IR signal, and by acting like a remote, control the Sat. Reciever / Cable box.

Exactly what I was trying to tell them.. After the rep on the phone said "You cannot connect the receiver to your computer monitor", and asked "Is the tuner inside the hard drive?".. I had to ask for someone in tech support who understood what a PC TV tuner was..

The tech said as long as the tuner card has the same i/o as the receiver, I should be fine.. Finally, cable is back in my life!!!
