Satellite radio will rape your mother, devour the heart of your first born, and swallow your soul!!!

Or that's what FM would have you believe.

Anyone else's local FM stations spewing out the anti-satellite rubish?

"It's just like cable, the price will just keep going up and up and up and up!"
"I paid over three hundred dollars for something that never works!"
"Over 25,000 people a month dump their satellite subscriptions!"

I always liked a delightful side dish of desperation along with my main course of FUD.

I think FM radio has realized that they aren't screwed yet but they will be if GM/Nissan and other car companies install these things right into the dashboards for a lot of customers (I know they are doing it for some right now)

Who needs radio of any kind when your car has a 6-disc changer that plays mp3 CD's, with an average of more than 100 songs per disc?

Now that's just crazy talk!

I recently subscribed to XM. I haven't listened to regular radio since and am very happy with my choice.

If I were to spend considerable time in my vehicle I would consider it.

But repeat after me Tivo > Satellite Radio

Radio companies would love satellite if they could get involved....it is the average DJ and station crew that are crapping their pants because with satelllite radio you get nationwide broadcast of the same show so ONE crew can replace hundreds.

After being in a car for 24 hours straight...you just get sick of music. Getting every NFL and NBA game in your car is great. Mixing things up with comedy, news, and sports shows is really nice.

when i got a CD player i stopped listning to FM, when i got XM i stopped listning to CDs, when i got a Hrad unit that plays MP3s its about 50/50 Xm and MP3 cds now

you cant burn news and sports to a CD

Neither does my CD player if I don't want it to. And personally, I'm not interested in listening to the know-nothing ranting talk radio fools. And local traffic and weather doesn't exist on sat radio.

Like I said, who needs it?

Actually, the item on the price going up is probably correct (seen your cable bill lately??), and the third item is true as well. Of course, more people are signing up than are dropping, but technically it's true.

Bottom line, I'd never pay for radio. I have all the music I want to listen to, and the only time I listen to radio is in my car. The few minutes a day in the car do not justify paying for radio..... I don't care if it comes built into my car for free, I will not pay a monthly fee to listen to the radio.

I've had XM since it started. price is still the same. I assume it will increase at some point, but I like it SO much better than local radio I am willing to pay for it. (plus I drive long distance regularly)

If anything, the prices have gone down since inception. Plus, with Sirius you can pay a one time fee of ~$500 and get a lifetime subscription. Locked in and never going up.

As for people dropping...if subscriptions were dropping that quickly, explain to me why the stocks for these companies are going up and up and up?

And 30 years ago people probably said the same thing about paying for cable TV.

the only thing worth while on free radio is AM sports radio, imo.

i've been seriously thinking about XM lately, because i've been driving more and get annoyed with the lack of variety on the radio.

Well, I was flipping around the radio stations this afternoon and I found nothing I liked. Well, I was listening to the oldies station -- good stuff.

One other thing - the cool thing about satellite radio is that they play stuff I've NEVER heard of before and they list the artist and song right as it's playing. If it's something I really like, I'll take note of it and look more stuff from the band when I get the chance.

They definitely spin some artists you'll never hear about on mainstream radio. And even if it is something, you don't have to stayed glued to the radio for 20 minutes to maybe hear the jockey tell you who the band was or what the name of the song was.

i love listening to my mp3 collection and happen to like every single song without touching the dial.

This is true. Though no radio station will be able to trump my ability to get unknown artists on the internet.
