sirius is $2 more a month and has more commercial free channels. That's all I know.

Heh if you read the investing thread, you'd know that I believe Sirius is better.

Sirius does not depend on ground repeaters like XM does, since it's got 3 satellites versus XM's 2.
It's got commercial free music channels...if you are paying for it, might as well get commercial free.
It's got NPR....enough said...XM doesnt
ClearChannel is not a shareholder or controller of Sirius....it is of XM.

check out some reviews and comparisons online of the 2 services.

I've got XM and im pretty happy with it. The only thing I dislike about XM is they have *some* commercials, not many..and the freaking DJ's. I hate the DJ's. They are so annoying, especially the 90's on 9 DJ's..you know, Kane, Priestly, and Girl 2.0. Does anyone know what im talking about?

Nope.. where are you buying it from? What equipment are you going to be using it with? (car cd-receiver or the Kenwood portable solution?)

XM is good enough for me...but I was under the impression that the music quality would = standard mp3 quality. Unfortunately, its nowhere NEAR as good. Prolly closer to 64kbps mp3.

yes

With all the stations available, I usually migrate to the 80's, and 90's, Fred, Café and "the joint"

The dance channels are not that great

i have XM and its great listen to Toptrack, squzz, ether. boneyard, deeptrack. all excellent stations. along with the Comedy one. teh quality of the XM signal is better then sirius. its mp3 quality at least 160kbps. teh ground based stuff is no biggie cause XM never goes out unless your underground. and its cheaper

I'm glad to know that now because I was seriously thinking of getting Sirius or XM too. The quality is noticeably worse than FM? That sucks.

The quality is better than FM, but less than CD.

the techno stations on XM suck. granted, i didn't listen much, but one was clearly better than the other 2, and it still sucked.

Thanks, I would be pissed if it truly sounded like a 64kbps mp3. I don't download, um, I mean encode any of my own CD's at less than 160kbps because I don't like the way 128 sounds.

Yeah, sorry I didn't clarify earlier...but the quality is better than FM. Nowhere near a good MP3 rip though...and a far cry from CD. You will definately hear some compression artifacts. Though I think some of this depends on whatever chipset your XM/Sirius receiver uses...I have a 1st generation receiver so maybe that's my problem right there...

Do XM and Sirius both have units for your car AND home?

Right now I think I'm more inclined to go with Sirius.

From what i've heard personally (same set-up, only difference is the tuner) - Sirius has a more full-bodied sound. Given it also has 100% commercial-free channels, that extra $2/mo is negligible.

XM is also good.

Either way, i think any one of these two will be a good choice. I'll definitely take them over ClearChannel programming anyday.
