Don't have satellite, never used it, but I've read that pings are horrible, so forget gaming or anything like that.

Hey, 's not that bad... I was on DirecPC for a while and it only ran $60/month.

If you're out in the boonies like I used to be, and your choice is between 19,200 bps @ 30 ms or 400 Kbps @ 700 ms, I'll take the latter. I couldn't game, but boy did my MP3 collection increase...

Do you ever notice on the ads they never compare Direcway to Cable modem or DSL? They only compare to Dial up. Thats because they know they have an far inferior product and can't compete. I would never get it. I did some research into it. the price would have to come way down.

Well duh. But satellite does have a decent niche market for people who cannot get cable or DSL and, generally, are in an area with poor phone lines.

I used to be one of these poor saps. My choices were: modem at 19,200 baud, ISDN (at incredibly high prices; like $80/mo. for 64 Kbps + heavy install fees), or satellite.

Now, if you live in the city and have cable/DSL readily available, you'd be stupid to waste money on something like DirecPC.

I just had 2 way satellite installed. Its not bad, much better than dial up (which is my only other alternative) The fair access policy policy limits you to around 169 megs every 1-4 hours, but that's enough bandwidth for my usage. If anyone has any particular questions, I'd be happy to try and answer them from my experience (pm or im @ bphill34)

brian

edit...i tried to abbreviate fair access policy and it told me i couldn't post because of a forbidden word...ha

Hey Brian. I started a thread here concerning 2-way Satellite. If you have had experience with setting up ICS with it, could you reply to the other thread for me? If not, don't worry about it. :)
