I have satellite internet. I got it installed May 5 2007. I use it to dl drivers and web browsing. I don't upload for backup, web development, bittorrent, video, online gaming, spamming, etc. I run AVG anti-virus, Comodo firewall, and a-aquared free. Does anyone have an idea whats causing this? I'm over my bandwidth threshold on my package, upload threshold only, plenty of download room. Thanks for any help.

I think it's official, someone is actually asking why his internet if FASTER than it should be, wow, never thought I'd see that. To answer your question, just live with it. If there's a screwup in the threshold, that's the satellite ISP's problem, not yours. Enjoy it, while you have it.

No, the 2768 MB Upload/ 2322 MB Download is a total usage per 30 days. 2768 MB is what I've used out of 2300 MB Upload allowed/ 2322 mb Download out of 7500 MB allowed. Its part of their Fair Access Policy. I'm with Wild Blue. Theey call it 30-Day Rolling Bandwidth Usage Totals

Gotcha, just needed that cleared up. You need to look closely at what your applications are doing. Do you use any programs like BitTorrent, etc..Also, do you use a wireless router that someone may be able to access from outside your home? While web browsing utilizes upload, it doesn't use that much.

I am using a wireless router, bu the security is enabled WPA/WPA2. Besides the fact that I'm surrounded by corn fields and live in a gravel road... my neighbors are 1.5 miles away. No cars sitting on the road either. heh. I guess it has to be a program someone is using on my network. I've look atthe data being sent out through Comodo firewall and don't see any large data clumps being sent, just a few bytes or kb.

What other equipment is involved? A router of some sort?

It's very unusual for your up and down to be close if you're not actually uploading anything. You couls always run wireshark packet sniffer to see what your computer is actually sending out and record the conversations/bytecounts.

Its just the satellite modem->wireless router->2 computers connected-wireless, 1 computer connected by ethernet cord. I gave that wireshark a try. The only traffic is on the wired PC. None on the wireless PC's. I haven't had a chance to examine the traffic yet. Seems to be network chatter between my network PC's.

edit: Checked setting in wireshark and now have some results to check on wireless PC's as well.

Make sure you install that program on ALL of your computers. Keep LAN traffic to a minimum for a day or two to see how things look on the internet side. There has to be something on one of your computers for your upload to be that high, 2.7gb upload on a satellite connection is quite high.

connect a hub from your modem to your router, assign a private IP, and plug into the hub to sniff (then you can see what is going out of the router).

Is it possible that the folding program is causing this? I run it all the time, except when I'm gaming. Its always "attempting to send results", even if the results are not completed. I've cut the majority of the allowed programs out of Comodo. I get more allowance pop-ups, but my upload usage IS down to an acceptable level. Maybe I gave my programs too much allowance considering I usage constrants with the satellite net. This is the first month I had it. I had dial-up before. ick... Thanks for all the help and suggestions.
