Hey,
I am using Direcway Satellite internet in Duchess County, NY. I get very fast throughput when directly connected to the satellite hardware (via USB) (>2Mbit at times).
When I run internet connection sharing through my XP box (1.2 Ghz), I see a massive dropoff in performance (down below 200kbit at times), when using a computer connected to my LAN.
I have tried this with all sorts of different hardware for connection sharing (Wired ethernet, USB ORiNOCO, USB LAN, ORiNOCO RG-1000, several different cables), and nothing will make the throughput go up. I am confident that the drop in throughput has nothing to do with my hardware setup.
Because the satellite internet must be used through the USB interface, there is no way I can use a router. I must use internet connection sharing.
Has anyone seen issues like this? There is always a long ping delay for satellite internet. My thinking is that there is some kind of inherent problem using ICS through satellite internet. Any thoughts? Any ideas?
Also: I have tried the exact same configuration using a Dell Latitude L series laptop (700 Mhz) running ICS (Win2k). The result was exactly the same.
Thanks!
