I have direct tv going on 4 months now; Whenever it rains I lose the signal. Spoke to customer service and was informed that that's 'normal' and if my signal is in the 90's range(which it is) won't happen that often. and there is no device that can prevent this.
Q: Don't the cable companies get their signals from the same sats. They don't have 25k miles of cable running into the sky(pun) so how come they don't lose their signal? is their technology that different?..is it too expensive to apply to dish antennas?
:(

Yes actually the dishes the cable company uses are different. They are often considerably, and as I recall most in a different band, and larger with alot more corrective (and expensive) gear connected to them. So overall no, at the cabletv place we dont loose signal when it rains. If you had a "dish farm" you wouldn't either ;)

It has to be a pretty heavy thunderstorm for me to lose a signal on my Dish. Doesn't happen much but it's annoying when it does.
