Satellite Broadband

Hi! Due to me being sick of both Cable modem providers and DSL providers promising me broadband for over 2 years now, I'm now ready to consider using a satellite to get high speed access. I've heard some things about starband, but does anyone have any recommendations or experience with Starband or others? I've also heard that these things top out at 40K/sec is that true? Thanks in advance.

DONT FORGET ....You are only downloading at the faster speed, you still need to upload from your dial up connection....really not much of an option for gamers....but if your not interested in gaming, then go for it..and you will get awsome download speeds...all depends on what service and weather you have...

They just had a nice piece on TechTV about this. It was on the fresh gear program. They repeat it pretty often you might want to check it out if you can.

It looks to be pretty pricey, and the speed is only so so, better than dial up though...

This was for the two way service.

It actually downloads fast, but going to webpages and such can seem sluggish (hence the horrible ping due to communications between satellite to earth)

But, it's better than modem, so if you're willing to spend the money, I think it'd be a good solution for you. (just don't think about gaming.)

No Ringer - there are full duplex (two-way) broadband satellite connections available that, of course, do not use a ground-based telephone line.

I believe starband is available *only* in the 2-way version and cost around $70 per month and you need over $200 in equipment possibily more in setup fees. Here is a good place to discuss satellite and wireless broadband.
