Satellite and ISDN

Over a year ago I moved from a place where I had DSL to a place that doesn't qualify for it and can't get cable. In that years time I still haven't adjusted to 56k. So I was wondering if anyone had any experience with satellite modems or ISDN. Basically my questions are:
1. Cost?
2. Speed?
3. Worth it? (if expensive)
4. Drawbacks?
I have read stuff on them but would like to hear real experiences. Any info would be great. Thanks! 🙂

It really depends what you do. Satellite has a very high latency (100MS+), which means it's pretty poor for apps (like games) that need a low response time to perform well.

If, however, you're just casually surfing the web and downloading files, a satellite connection should probably do just fine. It will offer more raw speed, in terms of transfer rate, just a tiny bit more sluggish.

Here's one way to think about - A satellite connction is like a sprinter with really poor reflexes. ISDN is more like a generic Joe guy, but with great reflexes.

Of course, with Cable and DSL, you get the best of both worlds, but that doesn't sound like it's an option for you.

If it was me, I'd probably pick ISDN. But I've heard decent things about Starband Satellite Service, too.
