I have Vista running..... and I have some questions.

I am experiencing some issues.

My concerns are:

ZoneAlarm turns off Windows Firewall and instantly enables FILE SHARING.

I can only turn off file sharing when I turn ON Windows firewall.

I have satellite internet so Sheilds Up shows just about every port wide open. How can I tell if my ports are really open or if Sheilds up is just reading my satellites port status?
If I connect using a DIAL UP connection over my phone line and then scan my computer using Sheilds Up.... will that give me a good indication of which ports are actually exposed on MY computer?

I don't really want to run Windows Firewall WITH ZoneAlarm, but it appears that this is the only way I can turn off FILE SHARING. When I just use ZoneAlarm my FILE SHARING turns back on automatically. I do not know if this is ZoneAlarm or if I have another program turning on my FILE SHARING.

If anyone has some insight on the above please post.

Thanks!

you can't run both firewalls simultaneously. what you need to do is this: open ZA and choose the firewall tab. then choose the inner zones tab. select your network adaptor and change it from trusted to Internet. now file sharing and printers will be disabled.

i don't know why Shields Up shows your ports as open. ZA is supposed to close them. In the main firewall tab, make sure Internet security is on high.
