SATA3 ports not working? P6X58D-Prem.

Hey all-

I have the board set up on my bench right now- running fine. I attached my WD Black (WD1002FAEX, 1TB, Sata 2/3) to the Sata3 port- but it isn't detected in BIOS? The Marvel controller lists it, though...and shows it as SATA3 speed. Doesn't matter if it's set as IDE/AHCI/or raid.

If I attach it to one of the Sata2 ports- it's there?

What gives? The drive ought to run Sata3??

Thanks for your insights,

G

Not really sure, but check for a BIOS Update for that Motherboard.

The Marvel Controller is an Add-in Card or on the Motherboard?

It's the Marvell 9123, onboard.

Marvell's site says the WD Blacks, this model, are "enabled partners"~

WD's site has a compatibility list that doesn't show anything Marvell?

WTF?!

Seriously- shouldn't be this hard to pair up a drive w/board? Not sure what to think now...

If the Marvell Controller lists it, then it should be fine. For some reason(it appears) the Motherboard Manufacturer didn't implement it into the BIOS. The Motherboard Manual *should* say something about it, if that's the case.

Go ahead and Install Windows or use it the way you intended. As long as it does that there's no problem here.

Problem is that rather than 6gb, it will only ever get 3gb thru.

I'm installing Linux Mint now- just because I have no other drives, atm...

Will verify, with Asus, exactly which drives can work with their product.

I have half an idea they don't even know about this.
