sata2 -> sata3

It depends on the controller and bus. Sata 3 drives have the ability to transfer information faster but, whether or not they will depends on the other components. Think of it as raising the speed limit on the highway. If you're driving a VW bug, it doesn't matter that you can now drive 120 mph because your car can't go that fast.
 
Even with SSDs the difference between SATA2 and SATA3 is minimal. With HDs you couldnt tell if its SATA1, 2 or 3 😉
