SATA vs. IDE (SATA must use a SATA D)

I am rebuilding a system that has 5 IDE HDs and 3 other CD/ZIP/DVD drive all IDE on a Abit KT7-RAID....using the RAID just for added IDE channels

Looking for a new MB/RAM/CPU replacement....can someone confirm for me that if a MB has SATA then I would have to add an IDE card on the PCI to run my old drives? then to really use the SATA, I would need to buy a SATA drive...right? Just wanted to make sure that was my option....

Yeah, there are adapters. Also, most boards will have both IDE and SATA on them. (Although probably not for 8 devices 😛)

That would be sweet! I want to upgrade the MB, but not have to go full HD replacement....adapters would probably work just fine, then when i buy some new HD i can transfer to SATA to ride the next wave...

They cost like $5-10, or are they obnoxious in price?
