I plugged the SATA converter onto one of my IDE hard drives and then i plugged the sata cable on the SATA 1 of my board and the other end goes to the hard drive. How come my hard drive is not showing up??? the power is plugged the HD gets warm and isn't that all i need to plug??? or am i missing something??

i tried putting the jumper on DS master and i also tried removing the jumper from the HD as well...
still don't get it.. how do i make the HD showw

I have the SIIG IDE to SATA converter. So what I know might not hold true for you.

Both the converter board and IDE hard drive need to be powered and the drive jumpers need to be set to master.

What drive and what converter?

it's an old Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 9 60gb

im using a SATA to IDE Dongle

i already set it to master
but still can't detect this drive

Is that the SYBA SATA to IDE dongle? If so it looks similar to the SIIG, except encased in plastic and standing up right. Make sure both the dongle and hard drive have their power connectors are powered.

yea is the SYBA

so the only thing s i need to connect is the power to the HD and the SATA cable to the dongle right?
cuz thats wut i did... and SATA is enabled in bios

There should be a power connector on the dongle. THat needs to be connected to the power supply.

Two power connectors one on the dongle and one on the IDE drive both connected to the power supply.
One SATA cable connector, connected.

i don't see anywhere on the dongle that i can plug a power connector to...

Don't want to hijack the thread but thought I'd ask where you guys are getting SATA to IDE adapters for a good price online? 😀

NO...

You see that white 4-pin connector on the left?? That's a floppy power connector. It says +12V, GND, GND, +5V right there on the plastic so you can't POSSIBLY miss it.

You need to plug a power cable into the SATA adapter, as everyone has said above.

Take a look at this pic on Acortech:

link

It shows the power into the HDD, power into the adapter, and SATA into the adapter. That's what yours needs to look like.
