SATA showing as removable drive

It depends on the SATA conroller. On my NF4 board, and my VIA 880pro boards, the SATA drive shows with the removeable icon, with my Intel chipset boards, it does not. For you second question, yes, SATA drives support hot swap.
 
thanks for the quick response, mine is nf3ultra i think, i've got k8n neo2 plat. i'm formatting his hard drive as partition magic ****** it and wouldn't let him install a new copy of windows or repair as it'd freeze the thing
