SATA? RAID0? Just got 2 new Seagte Ultra ATA/100 Drives.. HELP!!

Hey All,

I been out of the computer world for a while.. what I have now is:

AMD Athlon 1.3 ghz
512 MB Ram
NVidia Geforce2 64 MB
2 30 GIG Maxtor Drives using Highpoint 370 RAID-0 built on motherboard

I believe I have an ASUS mobo, but not too sure.

Anyhow, I recently purchased 2 seagate ata/100 drives for $150 each from Best Buy (after rebate). These drives are both 300 GB.

How does SATA work? Does the drives need to be 'sata', cables need to be sata, and controller need to be sata in order for me to use sata? Or can I just get a controller card and cable and I'll be 'sata' with the drives?

In addition - how about RAID 0? If my current mobo can only handle 2 drives total (2 maxtor 30 GB) as RAID 0, then that means I need another card, right? I do have a Promise Ultra ATA/100 card that I had since back in the day.. but is it correct that I will NOT be able to use RAID 0 with this card?

That means I need to go out and buy an ata/100 RAID capable card, correct?

Thanks everyone in advance..

... oh, also - i hooked up both drives as the last drive for the 2 slots possible on the promise ata/100 controller card. However, both my winxp pro sees the drives as 137 GB. I tried running the Seagate s/w, and that also sees the drives as 137 GB.

What to do? Thanks..

ichecked promise's web site.. but i am not sure if i have an ultra 100 or an ultra tx2. what does tx2 stand for? thanks..

On an unrelated note, you may want to take a look at your rebates. I've noticed that some best buy rebates are limited to "one per household, per address, per person" etc, so if you send in rebates from both drives, you may not get one set back.
