SATA, Raid features??? on motherboard A7V8X-LA in Compaq S6000Z

Does this motherboard support SATA hard drives? I saw 2 slots on motherboard to do so. However I was informed by a Compaq online chat specialist that Compaq disabled this feature on the south bridge along with on board raid so I'd have to buy a SATA card. Is this true? I'm thinking of getting a SATA 36gb raptor for this MB. Thanks in advance.
