SATA RAID Concerns

Hello All,

I currently have an MSI K7N2G-ILSR motherboard with 2 Hitachi SATA drives in RAID 0

I just purchased an MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum.

What is going to happen to my RAID when I switch to the other board?
Is there any precautions that I should worry about?

I have quite a bit of data on the partitions that would take WAY to many DVD's to backup but if I have to I will get the important stuff off.

good luck I dont think you'll be able to pull it off though winxp hates new mobo's wthout a new install. buy a hdd big enough for everything then backup your system

I have every intention of formatting the system drive and reinstalling windows. It is the other 4 partitions with about 250 gigs of info I am concerned about.

I actually hate to say this, but I'm agreeing with aeternitas on this one ...

It's possible to upgrade your mobo without a hassle from WinXP, but it's not a very common occurrance. Best bet would be to backup the most important stuff, try to get rid of everything related to your current mobo (ie, make your disk controller "generic" etc) and give it a shot. More than likely, you'll lose it all and have to start over, unfortunately.

i have done this a few time no problem. I did have to reinstall some software though!
1. uninstall all drivers (ide,chipset,vga, etc....) don't reboot when prompt to
2. move drives to new system
3. boot up in windows and hit escape when prompt for drivers
4. install new drivers
5. good luck

I would still back up data before doing this though. maybe a compress image.
that's why i always have external drive.

Here is some clarity for all...

I am going to format my Drive C:. Windows will be gone and I will reinstall it.

I am worried about my other partitions. My D:, E: and F: drives that are on the the same drives just other partitions.

I have 2 Hitatchi 160 gig hard drives in RAID 0 so they look like 1 drive of 320 gigs. I then have a 40 gig partition, and 80 gig partition, a 20 gig partition and then a partition that takes up the rest. The C: drive is the 40 gig and there is nothing on there that I am keeping.
