On my next system build I'm going to RAID 0 some SATA drives. However, I don't want to have a large partition for the OS to run on. My question is simple: Can I RAID 0 two drives and partition them as well?

Example: 2x 160GB drives = 320GB RAID 0

40GB partition for the main OS
40GB partition for secondary OS
240GB partition for games/movies/music/etc.

I don't see why you wouldn't be able to, RAID 0 sets them up to work as one drive, but then you can partition that however you'd like.

You could save money by purchasing 2 smaller SATA drives (80GB) and striping them instead of 160. This is safer if you don't want to lose those movies/music (unless they're backed up). Then again, it's not like losing a few movies is such a big deal.

Thanks. i thought i'd be able to but wasn't for sure.

I'm not too concerned with mirroring as i see it if anything gets corrupted or the RAID 0 fails, then a nice format and fresh install will just make my computer run better. :)
I also don't expect the RAID 0 to fail. Speaking of whch, has anyone had their RAID 0 fail or files get corrupted? I don't think it's a common thing, but then again - I haven't put any drives in an array yet so I don't know for sure.

my raptors have been running great, through numerous reformats and defrags, not one failure.

Second here. First I had two 36GB Raptors in RAID 0 and I now have two 74GB raptors in RAID 0.

No problems whatsoever running off the controller on my motherboard. I do image daily to an IDE drive using Acronis. Stuff happens.

haha. No doubt stuff happens. Any when it does - there's nothing more i'd like to do than throw my computer out the window or smash it with a sledge hammer. But then reality sets in and i realize everything can be backed up ... again, and reinstalled ... again.

But that's a good idea backing up to an IDE drive.

Thanks guys.
