SATA problem: connector? drive?

I recently made the move from IDE to SATA (well, about 3 months ago now). Anyway, I've had an intermittent proble with my hard drives. Occasionally, one of the hard drives will start making a noise that is similar to the "click of death" a high-pitched whine of maybe half a second or so, followed by a clicking noise. The entire sequence takes maybe a second. Occasionally, just the whine will happen, repeating over and over again about 2 or 3 times per second. the noise may only occur once or it may go on for a long time.

Always, whenever the noise occurs, everything on the computer freezes, however, anything I do during that time (keystrokes, etc.) will show up after the noise stops and the computer resumes functioning.

Also, sometimes, after the noise happens, the Unplug/Remove hardware dialog box pops up saying that one of my hard drives has been unsafely disconnected from the computer.

My specs are:
AMD 64 3000+
Asus K8N-E Deluxe
Nvidia GF4 Ti4200
1x WD 74GB Raptor SATA (on Nforce SATA, used as primary system drive for OS)
2x Seagate 200GB SATA (on Sil 3114 SATA/RAID chip. in standard SATA config. No RAID)
Antec 450W TruePower

it's one of the Seagate drives that claim to be disconnected when the dialog box comes up.
When the computer is functioning properly, I can access all of the data on any hard drive just fine.
All of the drives were purchased new from Newegg.com at the end of Nov. 04, so they are not quite 2 months old. The mobo/processor was purchased at the end of August '04, the powersupply in the summer of '03 and videocard was an RMA recieved about a year ago.

I'm guessing (hoping, more like) that the solution to this problem is simply that the SATA connectors keep pulling themselves out of their sockets slightly. (Oh, i should mention that I have a Lian-Li PC-61 and my hard drives are mounted vertically rather than horizontally, as in most systems.)

1) would you agree with the assesment that the SATA cables are merely pulling themselves out
2) have I possibly caused permanent damage to the drives as a result
3) does Seagate have an equivalent for the WD "Secure Connect" cables
4) does scotch or electrical tape work as an alternative to the "Secure Connect" cables?
5) could it be that my power supply is faulty (my voltages are rather low)?
6) is it maybe (god forbid) something much worse, like a drive failure?

Apologies for the lengthy post, but I always try to provide as much detail as possible.
Thanks for any help you can offer and thanks for just reading this post :)

have you tried testing the drive with the seagate drive diagnose utlity?

clicking to me means that the wands are trying to get somewhere and cant
