SATA Power - What's the 3.3V used for

Henny

SATA power connectors use +12, +5, GND, and +3.3. However SATA power convertors use std. Molex connectors which only have the +12, +5 and GND. They ignore the 3.3V.

Anyone know why SATA uses 3.3V and why it seems to be ignored??

It's not used for anything right now. It's possible that the logic board on drives will migrate to lower voltage logic so it's there for future-proofing.
