Sata power connector... any reason to have?

No. I don't know why they changed the connector anyway - there was nothing wrong with the 4-pin Amp connector (except they can be hard to disconnect and cheap female contacts can loosen over numerous heat/cool cycles at the connection) and the new connector seems pretty fragile from the number of messages I've seen here and elsewhere about broken ones.

The SATA standard allows for hot-swapping of drives. The SATA power connector is designed for this.

I would not try this out just to see how it works. I cannot emphasize this enough.

For now there is no advantage to one or the other. AFAIK, WD raptors are the only drives that offer both connectors.
