SATA Port Multiplier and AMD Motherboard (SB950)

Has anyone tried to use a SATA Port Multiplier with an AMD motherboard and succeeded?

I am looking specifically for info about the SB950 chipset.

The best multiplier being sold right now seems to be one from StarTech. I asked them if they know if it is compatible with that chipset and they told me to ask the manufacturer.

I contacted the manufacturer (ASUS) and they say there is not support. (I would expect them to answer that just to cover themselves from liability.)

This page seems to indicate that there is, so I have hope, but I don't want to make an international purchase without being sure.
