SATA PCI controllers worth it?

Is it worth it purchasing a SATA drive at this point for my nForce2 mobo? (plan upgrading eventually)

I would have to purchase a SATA controller card like this one, seen them for around $12.

What else would be involved? Do I need new cables?

IDE from the chipset's own channels is certainly faster - simply because it's on a faster bus connection than lame PCI.

Since you're talking an interim solution here, an under $20. SATA card should do you fine - the PCI bus won't slow things much (unless you're talking Raptors). You will need a data cable for each SATA drive (unless the card comes with some) and you may need a power adapter if the drive doesn't have the normal Molex power connector (many have both).
. Get a Silicon Image based SATA adapter if you decide to go for it - they are making some of the best HD support chips out there now.
