SATA n00b...

My new rig will be here soon, featuring an SATA HD that will be the root drive.

Does anybody have a "heads-up" on anything I should look out for? I hear they're harder to install to, but never why. Having never used SATA before, I'd like to see what I'm getting myself into. Thanks!

Can you give us a little more info about the system? Depending on what sort of board/HD combo you are running, you will need to follow different procedures.

You won't need to do anything special. That board has native SATA, so it will just make the OS setup think it's a IDE drive set up as the Primary Master. The one thing you might want to avoid if you are going to have multiple drives is having the SATA and IDE drives connected at the same time. The OS setup will usually give priority to the IDE drive if you have both SATA and IDE.

Hope this helps...
