sata II and sata I

so my brother wants a cheap hard drive with a large amount of space. his motherboard cannot support Sata II, but can i still get a Sata II hard drive and it will run at Sata I speeds? seems like most hard drives are Sata II now anyway.

Yes. Some have a SATA II to SATA I jumper to make the MB recognize them, But generally, you're brother's good to go.
