Hello - I am building a new system with a MSI K8T Neo FI2SR motherboard, 1 GB Crucial Memory, Athalon 64 3000 cpu, and I would like to use a SATA HD for primary storage, and an IDE hd for backup storage. I have seen systems that use SATA and IDE drive in the same system. Could anyone please tell me if the use of differenet types (SATA and IDE) drives is possible with the aforementioned board, and if there is anything special I have to do when setting up the system. I plan on using WinXP Pro for the OS. Thank you in advance for the help.

Regards

Chris

They'll work, just hit F6 and load the SATA drivers off of a floppy disk when instructed under Windows installation or if using a PATA drive as your main hard drive (O/S) then you could just install the SATA drivers in a windows environment.

I would connect only the drive you want to install Windows on first and install windows. After windows is installed simply shut down and connect the drive. Don't confuse windows any more than you have to.

I agree with Overclock. When I set up my system with a SATA and a PATA I had to disconnect the PATA (that was going to be the secondary drive) and only have the SATA (primary drive with the OS installed) before the SATA was visible. After that, I just reconnected the PATA drive and I was working.
