I have two hard drives. The older drive is IDE and the new drive is SATA.
The bios is configured to boot off of the SATA drive.
I wanted to reduce cable clutter so I ordered a "bilateral IDE to SATA" converter board.
The little board is fairly simple. it has two SATA connectors and and IDE connector.
It works both ways, you can either connect an SATA drive to an IDE motherboard connector OR you can use it connect and IDE drive to a motherboard SATA connector.
So, for my older drive I tossed the old IDE ribbon cable and installed this converter board and connected it to the second SATA connector on the ASROCK.
Thus configured, the machine boots only to the video bios sign on message and then freezes. If I remove the converter board and put the ribbon cable back in it boots fine as before.
I just started playing with this, wondering what I should try next.
Reset BIOS to default and try again?
Your thoughts appreciated.
