Is this hot swappable? Can i open up the computer and connect the harddrive without shutting down?

Is it your boot drive? If so then no, also IIRC your SATA controller has to support hot-swapping.

As long as you use the SATA power connector it should be fine. Old Molex connectors aren't safe to hot swap with, but SATA connectors were.

Not the best of ideas, but 90% of the time won't matter, even w/ molex's Just plug em in straight, so all four points make contact at the same time. There's no difference in the current that comes to the drive when you hit the power button or that which you'd get if you just plugged the thing in while it was running. But, I don't recommend doing it. Why tempt fate? 🙂
