SATA help

I'm looking at getting a Raptor. I have an IDE 60 gig seagate with a 2MB buffer. I would like to have the raptor as the boot drive & use the other for storage. I've been reading about some people having trouble getting XP to install on SATA drives. Do you have to do anything special to install XP on a SATA?

I'm using a SATA as my primary drive (only drive at this point) and had no problems installing WinXP. The drive was auto-detected in the BIOS and I didn't have to do anything special to get the drive working or install WinXP.

Hopeless, I'm in the same boat as yourself and from some of the posts I see on the subject, you'd think that installing a SATA drive is next to impossible...

Does anyone know af a step-by-step guide for successfully doing an install with a SATA Raptor?

Either you use a floppy and press F6 or integrate the SATA drivers into a Windows install CD. Instruction for driver integration and unattended installations can be found on msfn.org.

Pretty much exactly what he said. I've done installs lots of times on SATA and I have yet to have a problem. Don't know what everyone else is talking about.

Most people have problems with trying to run both a SATA drive and a regular PATA drive at the same time. This is because of the way the BIOS on some motherboards treats SATA.

If you are JUST running a SATA drive there are generally no problems. Just install the driver during windows set-up and you're good to go.

I was able to install my SATA drive on my 400sc with no issues (XP Pro). I did also hear about the issues if you have PATA and SATA installed at the same time.

I installed my SATA drive with no problem at all. WinXP installed just like an ordinary PATA drive. I am running an Asus P4C800-E.

Sometimes you have to install a RAID driver or some other SATA controller driver in XP setup... but that depends if your motherboard requires it or not...
