I am trying to add a Rosewill Sata enclosure on my DFI Lanparty motherboard. I am running Raid 0 on channel 1&2 of the Raid controller. When I try to add the Rosewill drive on channel 3 or 4 I cannot get windows to see the drive. I have tried everything in the BIOS I can think of to enable the drive but no luck so far. I disabled raid on channel 3&4 in the bios and the controller is in device manager. I can use the device with the supplied USB cables so I know the drive is good. Possible bad enclosure?
Thanks,
Kevin

Welcome to the AT forums.

Older mobos won't be able to deal with eSATA - it's not just a connection. It is possible that it could recognize the drive as a normal SATA drive if you hook the drive to your PC while the power is off and power the drive up before you boot the PC. That way you can only connect and disconnect the drive when the power is off.

Otherwise you'll have to get a PCI eSATA controller. Vantec sells a single port eSATA controller that goes for $25. maybe there is another brand by now for less. I know that the Egg has the Vantec.

The documentation states that the enclosure Support SATAI/II to connect the desktop PC as a mobile rack function.

It would be nice if you gave a link to the enclosure you're talking about. If I'm seeing the right one, many of the buyer reviews say that the instructions are useless, so if one is a newbie, s/he should probably shy away. Didn't heed the warnings, eh? Tsk, tsk... There is probably a jumper on the little module that holds the notebook drive and that slides in and out of the 5" bay adapter, for setting Master/Slave set it to master if that is available.

Make sure the 5" bay adapter unit has both power and SATA connected to it. YOu can either use the included power adapter (Large to floppy power adapter) or use a floppy connection right off your PSU (best if you have one available. Then connect the SATA data cable to a free SATA port on the mobo. Put the drive carrier in and then BOOT your PC. It should then set up just like any other SATA HDD. It will NOT be removable or insertable with the PC powered on. Remove or insert the portable drive part only when the PS is powered down. In other words, it is NOT hot-swappable!

Also check the Rosewill web site for more info.
