Just wondering if by accident a SATA HD were plugged in with both the SATA power connector and a molex connector at the same time, if the unit would take current from both sources and fry?

OR, is there any type of protection within the HD that would cancel out one or another?

I'm surprised it damages the drive as I would've thought it just uses one or the other.

I guess not.

Hi, Since the power source is the same in each case I really doubt if any damage would be done. The idea was to accomodate PSUs that had SATA connectors and those that didn't. Use only one or the other. There may be a problem with PSUs with dual rails if the two voltages were greatly different. In any case you wouldn't want both rails connected that way. Hope this helps a little, Jim

I doubt it'd fry it, not exactly putting twice the voltage across it.

However i doubt it'd exactly be good for it either.
