SATA hdd troubles...please help

hello all! please help a useless noob out. i just upgraded my system to the p4 3.2 and decided to get an sata hard drive to see what all the hoopla was about. anyway, i have everything connected correctly. the sata power from the power source is connected, as is the sata connector to the sata1 slot on the mobo. my bios raid rom recognizes that i have a single western digital 80gig drive. i know this is not enough to create a raid, but i wanna wait to do that. anyway, when winxp is booted, i cannot see the wd drive. also, in the bios setup, i can only see my old ibm drive (the one im using right now), and it is set to secondary master, instead of primary master, as my jumpers have been set to. when i disconnect the old ibm ide drive and let te computer boot on just the wd sata drive, i get no local boot and the system tries to boot from network. what am i doing wrong?

Log on as an Administrator-class account if you aren't already, then go to Start | Control Panel | Performance & Maintenance | Administrative Tools and start Computer Management. Now go down the panel to Disk Management (pic of Disk Management window), and see if your drive's listed. If so, right-click its white unformatted area, make a partition, format it and give it a drive letter, or you can mount it inside your other drive as a folder if that suits you better.
