SATA HDD setup

Setting up an SATA HDD for the first time. The first (main) drive has windows on it and boots just fine, but I take it I can't format the other drive in windows since it doesn't show up. Bios has it listed however. Do I have to format the drive in DOS first? If so, there a way to do that without installing a floppy drive? I could steal one from another system but would rather not go thru the hassle if I don't need to.
