I have a Gigabyte K8NS motherboard with a pair of 80GB Hitachi 7200RPM SATA drives (all from newegg). When I connected both drives, one was making cracking noises, so i assume it's just a broken head. The other one just makes a few noises during start up but is quite otherwise. So I just left the "working" one and took other the broken one.
The problem is that the motherboard will not recognize the drive. I did try putting the drives on the floppy when installing windows and loading them by pressing F6, however the setup still says that it can't find any drives. I tried both Silicon Image and Nvidia SATA controllers and neither seem to recognize the drive.
My guess is that either both drives are defective to the point of not communicating with the motherboard, both SATA controllers are defective, or i am missing some setting. I tried disabling one controller and running with just one, but no luck. I turned RAID off but still nothing.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks in advance.
