sata hard drive question?

I have heard that all SATA hard drives excluding segates use a ide->sata bridge. Is this true? If it is the hard drive manuf. need to get on the ball. sata has been out for some time now and you would think the major manuf. (maxtor and wd) would have native solutions by now if they don't. I mean what is the use for going with sata then? A little better airflow? or possibly so you can stuff more hd's in your system since there are only so many sata & ide connectors. Im hoping the person i heard it from is wrong but let me know.

thanks,
