Well i just put my cpu together, but i am having a problem. Whenever i try to install windows, it starts loading and scanning my hardware, but then when it goes to install, a message comes up saying that i dont have a hard drive. I went into my bios, and it says: IDE Primary Master : Not detected. I checked the connection of the hard drive to the mobo and power source, and they are both ok. Any reason why this isnt showing up?

This is the hd i have :

Anyone know why this is happening?

Oh, by the way, whenever i boot up, first a screen comes up saying ASUS, then one comes up and it lists the harddrive. Dunno what this means.

Any help appreciated. Thanks

Edit: Ahh crap, Sorry for posting this in the wrong forum. Didnt notice i was in gen hardware.

if you are using a sata drive that is a real sata drive first make sure that there no jumpers on the back remove any that you find
second what mobo are you using. if it has onboard sata or if you use a pci card you will need to get the sata driversonto a floppy and when you boot into xp setup press f6 at the prompt xp doesnt nativly support sata yet so you have to give setup the drivers or it wont see the hdd
good luck

Try here on the motherboard manufacturer's site

And i would read the "read me" file after you download for instructions on how to make a driver disk "floppy" for windows XP.

BTW what Os are you installing?

If it is XP then you have to hit f6 during setup and install the driver from the disk you made "floppy" then everyting should work fine if bios is set up right , select "boot to" the drive you have in bios, and select boot order too, with your drive/controller selcted as 1st boot device.

I also have the Asus K8V, but the Maxtor 160GB 7200rpm SATA drive. Where do I get the SATA driver?

Edit: Is this the one I need:

Promise SATA378 Driver V1.00.0.26 (ATA Mode)

Get the drivers, put them on a disk, and when the XP install is booting and says at the bottom "press blah to load third party scsi drivers" (or something along those lines), press the button and load the drivers from the disk.

Use "MakeDisk.exe" in file you downloaded after extracting to make a Floppy disk, put the floppy in before running the MakeDisk.exe
