sata flash drives?

you know, I was just thinking how fast it would be if the would make flash drives run off the SATA instead of USB. with no moving part, it should beat scsi320 ez?

It's like everyone here doesn't know what google is.

If you want to find out information about something. Try google.

Google: sata flash drive

First result: "Adtron Introduces First Serial ATA Flash Drive"

One of the targetted ads on google takes us to this page:
http://ec.transcendusa.com/product/prod...e=Peripherals&Cid=24&indexnum=4&exid=2

IDE flash disks, but now we're getting warmer!

Clicking on "more sponsored links" shows us this:

"Solid State Flash Drive"
http://www.memtech.com/?ad=adwords&keyword=solid-state-flash-drive

and on that page we see this:

"SU3580 Panther - 3.5" SATA & USB Solid State Flash Drive"
"10 to 96 Gbyte capacity under 9.5mm" - ooooohhh, neato!!

Bada bing, bada boom

Learn how to use the internet, it will save you time.

hey buddy screw you with that ******. I did google right after I posted. I always post before I research so fu!

Up to 40 Mbyte/sec sustained Read/Write performance
I don't think so!

I did a benchmark on my raid 0 and got 77/mb sustainted.

But then I made a RAM disk and It gave me 979/mb sustained!!!

omg I wish I could load everything on a ramdisk and not lose it all when I reboot

oh wait! oh wait! don't tell me! I just found that this ramdisk saves and loads images.. now I just need to buy like $500 more memory and then I can be the first in the game having the fastest map loader

There are devices similar to a ram disk. Usually they have high speed memory that connects to a bus, and when you power down the computer all the contents of that memory are written to an actual hard disk.

They're very fast, and very very expensive.

I know Gigabyte makes a product kind of like that, except it doesn't have a hard drive to backup the data. It plugs into a PCI slot and constantly draws power from there. It also has a battery backup incase of a power outage. But if that also fails, then you're SOL. The max size is also only 4gb. I think you can RAID them though for 8gb total.
Gigabyte i-Ram Ramdisk

They arn't that fast though.. what makes them fast is the 0ms seek time yea.. but the thing is raid 0 raptures is prolly a lot faster than one of those drives.. most are only 40MB/sec, and yes they are WAY too expensive.. but like I was sayin before. the ramdrive i tried (i downloaded a program that turned my main memory into a drive) gave me 980/MB /sec! if there was only some way to make it dedicated, saved with a bettery, able to boot an OS from the main system ram, I would put in a few 2gig ddr sticks.. that would be no bottle neck at all.. just wow, but theres no way to do that, although it should be technically possilbe for the manufacturers

there are dedicated RAM drives out there. they are very expensive, and come with their own RAM, and batteries.

And, you may want to read V00D00's response.

Just FYI, you're not going to last long around here with that sort of attitude. Please search before posting.
