SATA first time

Installing SATA hdd drives and dvdrw for the first time. I purchased an Abit 8N SLi mobo. Does the mobo come with the sata drivers or do I need download them from somewhere else? I know I'll need a floppy to put them onto.....but also.....
I'm guessing I'm going to have a slight problem since I ordered one DVD drive (the RW) and it too is sata so is the computer if going to see that for the installation of XP? Or will I need an IDE drive first? Sorry for sounding like a n00b 😕 😱

If you're not setting up a RAID array, you won't need a floppy.
I believe it will come with a floppy.

Your optical drive should detect just fine.

no raid setup as I got a maxtor and a seagate.
I'm guessing the mobo instructions will tell me all this too eh.

Keep in mind, you only won't need the floppy if you're using the nVidia SATA ports, the Silicon Image ports will need the floppy driver. Also, if you're using RAID on any port to boot with, you will need the drivers.

If you're working off a single boot disk, and on the primary nVidia ports (1-4) then you'll be fine.

silicon image port? Lost me there.

Everything is SATA - both HDDs and 1 optical. As stated no raid though. I didn't order a floppy drive, but coulda borrowed from another PC IF I had to.....

Silicon Image is just another host controller for SATA ports sometimes added on motherboards. Just use the first main ports and you'll be fine. 🙂
