I just tried to install a Maxtor 250 GB SATA drive in my system, and was surprised to find that it didn't have a 4 pin connector. The Maxtor manual says that "your drive may have both an SATA power connector and a 4 pin legacy connector". Well, mine turns out to only have an SATA power connector. Sadly, my power supply doesn't seem to have any SATA power connectors. Do I have to get a new power supply? Or is there an adapter of some sort that will make my current standard p-4 PSU work?
As far as Maxtor drives specifically are concerned, is there a way to tell which ones have both power connectors just by looking at the box? It doesn't seem to be listed in the specifications, but i'm wondering if there's some sort of tell tale sign in the serial number or some place else. It seems weird that you wouldn't make it obvious for the consumer what connectors it does and does not have.
Any help you provide will be much appreciated. Thanks.
