SATA Drivers

I just got a new Samsung 120GB SATA150 HD. I'm trying to install the drivers, but for some reason the floppy drive isnt being picked up. I put my old HDD back in and it still isn't recognized. I've tried 2 different floppy dirves, which both work on different systems, so I know the drives arent the problem. Is there another way to load the drivers so I can actually use this wonderful HDD?

What motherboard are you using? Is the drive being recognized by the BIOS?

Is this going to be a fresh OS install onto this drive, or is this drive being added for additional storage?

Depending on your motherboard, you may not even need drivers. Floppy is the only way unless you want to do a slipstream of your drivers into XP. Assuming you are using/loading XP.

Im using the MSI NEO-FIS2R mobo. The SATA drive is going to have the OS installed on it and then im going to turn the old drive into an external HDD. I don't think the drive is even being recognized in BIOS.

Your first step is to get it recognized. You'll have to dig around in the BIOS and enable the ports, unless...............there are 2 sets of ports on the board. If so, try plugging it into a port on the other set.

If there are two sets, it's entirely possible the drive will automatically be recognized by the BIOS and more than likely will not need drivers when plugged into the other set.

A word of caution. Disconnect the old drive before you install the OS.

Your mobo has the ICH5R chipset, and therefore you do not have to install SATA drivers. XP has the drivers for this chipset. As Boomerang said, disconnect the IDE drive before installing the OS. You have to set the drive order in the BIOS also (Put SATA first).
