SATA Drivers and OS Install Help

I'm attempting to build my first computer and any help would be appreciated.
My problem is this: When I attempt to install Windows, it fails at the formatting hard drive portion. I figured out that I needed to get some ULI drivers (my motherboard is ASUS A8R32-MVP). So I booted from the included support CD and tried to format the floppy and install the drivers. Everything was going smooth until the floppy all of the sudden stopped writing the drivers to the disk. Is it only possible to format a floppy once and then never again? Also, if the drivers do load onto the floppy but setup still fails, is it still possible to reuse that floppy (reformat it) and try again? Help would me much appreciated?

Yes, you can re-use the floppy. Make sure to choose the correct option when formatting the floppy (The controller you're gonna use).

Then while the windows setup is loading, press the F6 key to provide the drivers for your SATA device. (I guess you know that already)

Try it again......and again......

It's a 250 GB SATA II. But, I believe the problem is with the floppy drive and/or the disks I have. They're both about 8 years old. Do they wear out from just sitting around?

It's SP1.

Both floppy disks and floppy drives are known for undependability.

Yep, get yourself some new disks to start and, if that doesn't help, buy a new floppy drive.

Are you setting up a SATA RAID? If no RAID, you shouldn't need the drivers for the SATA controller because, by default, most controllers are in plain-old IDE mode. I highly recommend partitioning that drive!

I don't understand why you guys make a giant C: drive and install Windows to it?! That's just plain dumb IMO. Make your OS partition (C drive) 80GB and use the rest as a data partition. I'm willing to bet if you do that Windows will install just fine to the 80GB partition without the need for specifying additional drivers.

I got new disks and the drivers wrote to that no problem, but the Windows XP install froze at 0% at the partitioning section. I'm going to see if my hard drive is causing the problem. I hope not, but at least I'll know for sure.
