i have an abit kv8-pro mobo and i am reinstalling windows on my sata hd. i put the latest sata drivers for my southbridge (via vt8237) on a floppy (i use a usb floppy drive) and rebooted with xp cd in cd drive. setup allowed me to use the drivers on the floppy to find my southbridge's sata controller, then proceded to format my hd. when it began to put the xp installation files on the disk, setup couldn't copy any for the via sata drivers to the disk. i skipped over them, deciding that i'd install them directly after the hyperion system drivers, which are the things i install first on new xp installations).

so the computer rebooted, and when the xp boot screen came up i almost immediately got a bsod saying stop 0x0000007B. what's up with that? this bsod comes up every time i try to reboot now.

my hd, a WD raptor 74 GB, is detected in the bios.

HELP!!!!!!!!!!!

Is the reason why it is blue screening.
1) get a standard floppy temporarly to install the via drivers
2) But if you do not have the raid mode turned on, you should not have to specify the extra drivers for the via sata controller. Let setup start and if it sees the drive without specifying then you should be ok

i feel like a real idiot. i spent the entire afternoon trying to install sata raid drivers for my xp installation on a single sata drive. i wasted five hours. and i'd even run the installation before without installing the drivers during setup. i am reminded that i can still sometimes be relegated to the ranks of n00b
